Pre-Op Instructions

Before Your Surgery or Procedure

The business day before your surgery, a staff member from this facility will attempt to call you to confirm your appointment time. If you can't be reached by phone, please call the center between the hours of 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM the business day before. They will ask you questions regarding current or past medical conditions, allergies and medications you are taking, and your insurance and billing information. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have and be sure to let the staff know of any special needs.

  1. The facility's nurse will instruct you as to what time you are to stop eating and drinking prior to your procedure.
  2. If you take medication for any condition, ask your doctor and/or the facility's nurse whether or not to take it the day of your procedure.
  3. For women, if there is any possibility you are pregnant, please notify your doctor and the facility's nurse.
  4. Leave all valuables at home, including watches, rings, jewelry and wallets.
  5. Notify your physician of any change in your health, such as a cold, fever or sore throat.
  6. For your safety, please arrange for an adult to drive you home afterwards. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home.


Day of Your Surgery or Procedure

  1. Leave all valuables at home, including watches, rings, jewelry, wallets and purses. Remove any body piercings.
  2. Arrive promptly at the scheduled time. This will allow adequate time for all necessary admission procedures.
  3. Please bring your insurance and identification cards including driver's license. If special financial arrangements are necessary, please call the Surgery Center prior to admission.
  4. Be sure to bring any paperwork your doctor gave you, such as test results or your medical history, and a list of medications you are taking.
  5. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
  6. Upon arrival, you will change into a gown and slippers which we provide. You will be asked to remove all jewelry, contact lenses, dentures and any prosthesis.
  7. You will have the opportunity to meet with the anesthesiologist and/or anesthesia provider prior to entering the operating room. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning your anesthesia.
  8. One to two family members may wait with the patient in the preoperative holding area. For the safety and privacy of all patients, family members are not allowed to accompany the patient into the operating room or procedure areas.
  9. When you are taken to the Operating Room you will be required to power off your cell phone, or leave it with a family member.

Post-Op Instructions

In the Recovery Area

  1. After your procedure, you will be moved to the Recovery Area where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home.
  2. We encourage your family members to remain in the facility while you are in surgery. If you desire, the surgeon will meet with your family at the conclusion of your surgery. If they leave the facility they may forfeit the opportunity to meet with the doctor. We require that the parents of minor children under the age of 19 remain in the Facility throughout the duration of their admission.
  3. When you are fully awake, your family will be able to join you. Although the times vary, most patients are discharged 1 to 3 hours after surgery.
  4. It is normal to feel discomfort in the area of your surgery. You may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness, depending on the type of anesthesia you received.
  5. A Center nurse will review any post-operative instructions left for you by your surgeon prior to your being discharged from the Center. We encourage you or your family to ask questions if there is anything you do not understand. You will receive a printed copy of these instructions.

At Home After Your Procedure

  1. You surgeon will provide specific instructions for care while you recover at home. In the event of any difficulty, please call your surgeon or go to the nearest emergency room.
  2. For the first 24 hours following your procedure, do not drive, engage in strenuous activities, drink alcoholic beverages, drive or make critical decisions. You should have a responsible person to stay with you during this period.
  3. With your permission, a nurse from the Surgery Center will call you within 1 - 2 business days to evaluate how you are recovering at home.
  4. Your will be asked to complete a questionnaire about the care you received. Your comments will enable us to continue to improve our services.
